The continuous pellet feed had goosed temps to 400°! A serious flaw that should be corrected.

The first 820 Deluxe Pit Boss sent was defective. It made a loud clanging sound and visibly shook with each clang. It quickly became obvious that something was wrong with the auger. Pit Boss took it back and sent another that worked fine. The exact reason for the clanging was never adequately explained. Recognizing the popularity of Pit Boss and lack of substantive complaints by owners, we give them the benefit of the doubt and are willing to accept this problem was an anomaly. We could not find any other account of a similar issue with Pit Boss, and indeed, the vast majority of buyers seem pleased.
This grill is simply amazing. Many people told me to get the Trager and I honestly was about too. But my wife wouldn’t sign off on spending 700 bucks. And rightfully so. So I did some more research and found Pit Boss! This is solid, it feel nice, heavy closing lid, great hopper feed, and no issues so far. I’ve read that many people have some inconsistencies in their temps but it’s mostly to do with how they operate. If you switch back and forth between multiple temps, it will automatically feed wood to the fire for 2.5 mins and cause a spike in smoke or temp. So to avoid this when you are switch from smoke to a higher temp, move your meat to the upper shelf.

Although these are marketed as grills, they do much more, including baking or roasting. Because they heat by convection, you might not get the grill marks that a gas or charcoal grill will give you, but you also won’t have the flame-up problems. While many pellet grills offer high cooking temperatures, the maximum depends on ambient temperature and wind. Many users wrap their grills in special insulating covers to help maintain heat, reduce fuel use, and reach the higher temperatures they desire.

I got this for father's day 2017, I've put 120 lbs of pellets through mine. Overall it is great, good price for the money, sear plate is nice for grilling. After a long Texas summer with a lot of use, it now struggles to hold at 225. It will either run at 205 or 235. It used to hold like a champ. I started using a Therm Pro TP08 Dual Probe to confirm and it's showing the same thing. I've tried playing with the P settings but nothing works. My only other complaint is that the paint burned off of the outside underneath. Called customer service, left a couple voicemails, and never got a call back.

UPDATE 8/27 - This grill is still performing flawlessly. No error messages, maintains temperatures. I have made homeade pizzas and strombolis on a pizza stone and it actually makes them better than in the oven. Its like a restaurant wood fired pizza. I made a pork butt, beef brisket, bacon wrapped scallops....it just simply cooks everything well. Love my Pit Boss !!
