With 341 square inches of cooking space and a digital control board that sets the temperature from 180 to 500 degrees, you’ll be cooking whole meals in this grill, even though it’s the smallest model that Pit Boss makes. It will hold up to a dozen burgers for parties, or a chicken and vegetables for the family dinner. When cooking is done, the porcelain coated grill grates are easy to clean.
We’ve looked at grills with larger hopper capacities, but this one has been reported to hold anywhere from 10-20 pounds, depending on who you ask, but you should be able to fit a twenty-pound bag in there. This isn’t really a major point of contention because it’s simple to add more pellets as needed, and you can have this thing smoking all day without having to add more.
As with any other outdoor grill, be sure your pellet grill comes with all the bells and whistles. Adjustable temperature control and convection technology help ensure you can prepare fish, veggies, ribs and steaks to perfection, while generous cooking areas will allow you to serve meals for larger groups of people. I'm really loving this grill! So far I've cooked a tri tip. Brisket. Ribs and a pork butt. All on one 20lb bag of pellets. It's almost a set it and forget it kind if thing. I just pop out and look and the temp once and a while with the built in probe I don't have to open the lid and let out the smoke and heat. It steps up your bbq game to a different level for sure. This is very well made.
The full capacity of this smoker is 7.0 cu ft, it’s total shipping weight is 160lbs and the item itself measures around 28 x 29 x 58.5 inches. The hopper has been innovatively repositioned optimizing space. The hopper is very efficient and allows you to maintain use of the smoker grill for over 24 hours, meaning that you can slow cook safely within the perfectly insulated walls. The igniter itself is also automated, meaning that it will both start and shut off automatically and quickly.

As far as Pit Boss customer service is concerned all I can tell you is that my experience was ridiculously awful.  I called Customer Support to ask a question about grate size and was routed into an automated system.   Every three minutes the automated system gave me two options to HANG UP the phone.  After 10 minutes and the third time the system asked me to, I hung up.
Simply turn a dial and start up the Pit Boss 820 Deluxe Pellet Grill. You’ll be able to bake a pizza, smoke up ribs or sear a steak with the delicious flavor infused by all-natural hardwood pellets. With a wide range of cooking temperatures at your fingertips (180°F to 500°F), you can utilize the digital control board to precisely cook up whatever’ ...
Pellet grills preheat quickly, so you can start cooking almost immediately, and the pellets are available in a number of woods, for different smoke flavors. The smoke has a subtle wood-fired flavor with less of the acrid flavor that comes from standard wood or charcoal. For the maximum smoke flavor, it’s best to cook at a temperature lower than 250 degrees, while higher temperatures cook faster with less smoke.
As far as clean-up goes, in my opinion, it is significantly easier to clean a pellet grill as apposed to like a traditional gas or charcoal option. On the Pit Boss options remove the grill grates, and then use a vacuum and the hose attachment to suck up the pellet dust, and clear the burner. The burner can sometimes get clogged so clearing that with the vacuum works nicely. After that it’s just a matter of grabbing a rag and wiping the grease from the grill.

Bought the smoker about 6 months ago - haven't started the gas grill since! I still have a propane smoker at the campground - going to try and sell that because we love the pit boss that much. We've smoked ribs, pork loin, prime rib, steaks, pizza and one of my favorites was smoked cheese. By turning up the"p"setting we were able to keep the temp down to around 80-95 degrees. We've smoked food in 90 temps all the way to 20 below zero it's no joke. Absolutely love the pit boss!

Be sure to read the manual before operating. There is vital information there, especially for the first fire up. One note that the manual does not mention, is that when you first fill the hopper, it takes several minutes for the pellets to reach the firebox. On your first "attempt", it is likely that the firebox will turn off before the pellets reach it, and you will think your grill is defective. Its not. Either "prime" the firebox with a small handful of pellets, or let it cycle once, unplug, and restart on "smoke" setting. You should always start the grill on "smoke" setting with the lid up until the initial smoke clears and you hear a nice "roar" of pellets burning...
