***Update 2...Now over a year in. I have easily fired this beauty up at least 150 times...yes, 2-3 times a week. With the cover, the care, and occasional, deep clean (just deep cleaned it for the 4th time..about a 1-2 hour simple process) it honestly looks like it did the day I set it up and works just as well. My pizza is the talk of my son's youth group buddies (don't want to tell them its Wal-Mart take and bake) and I can now cook/smoke/grill literally anything on this pit. My biggest problem now, if you read below about not using my 4K Cal Flame gas grill anymore (STILL haven't since), is that my wife if busting my chops to tear out my original 'outdoor kitchen' to free up more space on the patio! I'll keep making excuses to avoid that, but truth be told, this pit rendered my Cal Flame useless. Not one complaint...don't hesitate to buy this pit (remembering the $400 target price).***
I sincerely hope that you and rj009 are correct and that this is an affordable pellet grill that will last for many, many years. However, until I see the real world longevity data, or an indication from Danson that they are willing to stand behind their products, then I am going to keep pointing folks to Green Mountain (2 year warranty), Camp Chef (3 year warranty) and Rec Tec (6 year warranty).
Pit Boss Wood Pellet Grills 700 Series offers the best value per square inch in the pellet grill industry. The 700SC is as versatile as it is practical, featuring an upgraded care with locking caster wheels and complete cabinet enclosure for storage. The exterior is coated in a high-temp powder-coat finish with blue steel coloring. With 700 square inches of porcelain-coated cast iron cooking surface, including a removable second tier rack, the 700 series is perfect for a group of four to six.
Remote Accessibility: This level of control and observing is critical on the grounds that the container does not generally sustain the pellets into the wood screw accurately and the fire in the firepot can go out. The Davy Crockett will tell you that the container is not sustaining wood pellets and that the temperature is dropping. The Davy Crockett application will reveal to you something isn’t right.
Pit Boss Grills is owned by Dansons, the same company that makes the popular Louisiana Pellet Smokers. They are headquartered in Alberta, Canada with US distribution in Minnesota. Along with Traeger, Louisiana was one of the early entrants to the pellet smoker market. They produce a wide variety of pellet smokers, accessories and are getting into the kamado business as well.
With four porcelain-coated racks, this smoker is both easy to clean, as well as having a great capacity for a large amount of food (the cooking area measures at 676sq!) You don’t have to worry about disturbing the smoking process when refueling, as the smoker has as separate wood-chip burner tray, meaning you can smoke for days without disrupting the process.
Pellet grills are outdoor cookers in every sense of the word. In saying that, I mean that they can bake, smoke and grill all through the magic of wood pellets and an electronic control panel that deposits just the right amount of pellet to maintain the perfect cooking temperature. With the simple turn of a knob, you can conjure up the gorgeous complex flavor of wood smoked meat without having to deal with the hassle of manual smoking.
Strangely, whenever you switch cooking temp, the auger runs continuously for four minutes before trying to adjust to the new set temp. This isn't so bad if you're going from low to high, but problematic in the opposite direction. We were slow smoking ribs when interrupted just as they passed the bend test and were ready to be sauced. Forgetting the controllers odd four minute drill, we turned the temp down from 225° to the lowest "Smoke" setting to hold them briefly. Luckily we returned within a few minutes to rescue the ribs. The continuous pellet feed had goosed temps to 400°! A serious flaw that should be corrected.
Loving my first pellet bit boss grill. But I did do a few modifications on it . I added LAVA LOCK GASKET to the door so I wouldn't lose smoke and heat and I also added a spring latch to help seal everything. And last thing I added was a bottle opener lol.. I must say this is a nice piece of equipment.. add working like a champ. I would of gave 5 stars but I had to and a few mods.
