Was originally looking for a gas grill, this grill had everything I was looking for and more. Larger cooking space, no flare ups, ability to smoke. I have zero fluctuations in temp, but there is a significant temp difference between controller temp and lid thermometer. I have learned how to deal with this. Also, it comes with 2 temp probes that I use always that help, plus I just learned on Youtube that if you adjust the "P" settings you can fix this issue. Other small things that I like about this grill is Made In America, Instructions only in English, and they were specific to this model (not cut n paste saying "if applicable"). 40lb bag of pellet compared to propane tank consumption is close, but you will spend a little more for a bag of pellets and maybe have to buy slightly more often than a tank refill....but I have been grilling a lot more also. I also compared to other brands as well. Probably the worst thing about this grill is Walmart cant keep them in stock

Although overall construction appears pretty good, we all know you don't get something for nothing and the warranties may be indicative: Pit Boss one year, Traeger three years. Given the price difference, however, it's not useful to make apples to apples comparisons. For those who want a pellet smoker, but don't have a budget for Traeger, Pit Boss is a good option. That said, don't pay MSRP. Discounts are to be had on the entire PB line.

We’ve looked at grills with larger hopper capacities, but this one has been reported to hold anywhere from 10-20 pounds, depending on who you ask, but you should be able to fit a twenty-pound bag in there. This isn’t really a major point of contention because it’s simple to add more pellets as needed, and you can have this thing smoking all day without having to add more.
Loving my first pellet bit boss grill. But I did do a few modifications on it . I added LAVA LOCK GASKET to the door so I wouldn't lose smoke and heat and I also added a spring latch to help seal everything. And last thing I added was a bottle opener lol.. I must say this is a nice piece of equipment.. add working like a champ. I would of gave 5 stars but I had to and a few mods.

They turned out great but I do have to learn to control the temperature a little bit better. Then for Christmas dinner I smoked two ribeye roasts. They turned out great. I had everything from medium rare to well-done, with just the right amount of smoke flavor and a nice bark. Today I did a whole chicken. The skin was nice and crispy and the breast was moist with again a good mild smoke flavor. All in all my experience so far with the smoker has been very pleasing. I know there are still some things I need to learn as far as time and temperature and make some adjustments to the smoking which are all possible with this smoker. I have been using a combination pellet produced by Camp Chef and I’m very pleased with it.

In the newer Pit Boss models, they have a “cleanout chute” where you can unscrew the hopper and allow the pellets to come out. In the Traeger models they have a door and pellets come out that way instead. This is something that brands like Pit Boss and Traeger recognized as being a problem and obviously it is now being implemented. When making your purchasing decision, definitely do your research and ensure the model has an option on the hopper to remove the pellets.

I sincerely hope that you and rj009 are correct and that this is an affordable pellet grill that will last for many, many years. However, until I see the real world longevity data, or an indication from Danson that they are willing to stand behind their products, then I am going to keep pointing folks to Green Mountain (2 year warranty), Camp Chef (3 year warranty) and Rec Tec (6 year warranty).
This piece of junk did not work when I received it fresh out of the box & now it's broke again!!! What a waste of money! First issue was a temp control module board, which the manufacturer actually sent me directly & I had to install it. Now after about 6 months of using it approximately 12-14 times, it won't even power up. I don't even want to attempt to fix it again!! I am going to spend the extra money & buy a Traeger!!

After much research and learning how easy a pellet grill/smoker was to use I purchased one. I have never smoked anything before and honestly only ever grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. After building this I primed it as the manual suggests and then smoked a pork shoulder for 10 hours and oh my! After I slid the flame broiler cover over and grilled steaks, brats, burgers, and dogs. This grill produces fall off the bone ribs. I've also cooked a brisket to perfection. My only issue is that I have to clean it after every use. If it isn't cleaned properly (I remove all of the grates and use a shop vac to suction all ashes and unburned pellets) the pellets will back up and when they finally push through, you will have a huge flare up that will potentially burn whatever you are cooking as well as take the paint off the grill itself. Also, I find it works better if you set the dial to OFF and then back to whatever temperature you want. Other than those few quirks, I love this grill. I did find a larger Pit Boss after I bought this one, but it was about $150 more.
