The Green Mountain Grills Davy Crockett is a versatile, wood-pellet grill that is intended for portability. Regardless of its weight, it’s about as minimized as you can get, and takes care of business. Contrasted with more costly wood pellet barbecues, it appears to hold its own on performance, while the one of a kind Wi-Fi usefulness needs some finish.
Pit Boss offers a Small 340, Medium 440 Deluxe, Large 820 and 820 Deluxe. The numbers indicate total cooking surface including warming racks. All are 16 gauge black powder coated steel with porcelain coated cast iron grates, coated steel rod secondary removable cooking racks, and coated wire lower shelves. I enjoyed the decision of a wood screw framework rather than a suction framework, since it spares cash on pellets, and manages temperature better. Really like this smoker. I can smoke a brisket for 10 - 18 hours (dependent on size) with minimal attention, just check it occasionally and as pellets as needed. I'm constantly smoking whole chickens (beer can style) for 3 - 4 hours as well as ribs, pork butt, fish, deer sausage, steak, chops, just about anything. Can start it and go about your work. I've had it for four+ years with the only problem arising when I mistakenly point pellet/control box into strong winds; auger overfeeds and suffocates fire.
We’ve looked at grills with larger hopper capacities, but this one has been reported to hold anywhere from 10-20 pounds, depending on who you ask, but you should be able to fit a twenty-pound bag in there. This isn’t really a major point of contention because it’s simple to add more pellets as needed, and you can have this thing smoking all day without having to add more.

I’m kinda torn between the 700 and the 820. Is the 820 THAT much bigger than the 700 I’ve only see the 700 all put together in a store. I really don’t need bigger but in Canada the price point is almost zero between the 2 of them. The 820 is only $100 more In Canada but comes with a cover while the 700 does not so I’m leaving towards the 820 it’d be the same price after I buy a cover for the 700. We don’t BBQ in any large quantities often it’s just a coupla hunks of chicken for dinner.

But, who cares about all that!? How does it cook? I knew pellet grills could deliver the flavor based on my buddies’ samples. And they told me how easy it was, but I really didn’t believe it until I threw 4 split breasts and a rack of ribs on my Pit Boss for her maiden voyage. I LITERALLY did nothing, but my usual rubs and putting them on. After 2 hours on the chicken and 3 on the rib rack (Baby Back) at around 300 (then foil wrapped the rib for another half hour), I had PURE perfection. Every breast was evenly cooked according to size- and I never touched them (on my gas grill I have to constantly shuffle everything around for even the dream of even cooking (and pray for no flare-ups). I never had to flip either and the temperature was 160 top to bottom on the breasts when I pulled them. I have been cooking split breasts for 30 years…these were the best I have ever done- and all I had to do was drink beer. The ribs were smokey and had a REAL smoke ring. They didn’t “fall off the bone”, but just pulled away perfectly. SO good… honestly, this feels like cheating!
