In terms of changing pellets, this sort of depends on the brand and model you go with. In the newer Pit Boss models, they have a “cleanout chute” where you can unscrew the hopper and allow the pellets to come out. In the Traeger models they have a door and pellets come out that way instead. This is something that brands like Pit Boss and Traeger recognized as being a problem and obviously it is now being implemented. When making your purchasing decision, definitely do your research and ensure the model has an option on the hopper to remove the pellets.
The PK-360, with 360 square inches of cooking space, this rust free, cast aluminum charcoal grill is durable and easy to use. Four-way venting means it's easy to set up for two zone cooking with more control than single vent Kamado grills. It is much easier to set up for 2-zone cooking than any round kamado. Beautifully designed and completely portable. Meathead says it is his preferrred grill.
This is the second one I have received as the first one was a lemon. The first one worked great the first 3 times I used it, but then I started getting "Err" message, as well as an overheat message randomly that would not go away. I returned it to Amazon and promptly received a replacement. I have used this one heavily for 7 days now and have had no problems. I will check back in in a couple weeks with my results. It is very well constructed, holds its temperatures well and cooks pretty evenly. I have smoked/grilled ribs using the 3/2/1 method, made stuffed hamburgers, a whole chicken, and a porterhouse steak so far. For the price you cannot beat it. The searing option where you can open the heat shield/drip tray to expose slots directly over the flame is great for cooking steaks and a nice option that you don't see on other models. The removable side tray is also nice for bringing out your meat and placing your finished product on it. The bottle opener is weird...u have to really put the bottle at an angle to open and you lose part of your beer....but it looks cool...lol. A few tips: Cover the heat shield/drip tray with new tin foil each use or else it is almost impossible to clean it. Make sure the knob is in the off position before plugging it in and wait for the numbers to stop flashing before adjusting the temperature. Always start out in the smoke position until it is smoking and a a flame has started, then turn it to your desired temperature(about 5 min). Vacuum out the firepot and inside of the barrel every other use. Most importantly....use this thing as much as possible in the first 30 days to make sure it is functioning properly so if you do have problems you can return to Amazon. I love Amazon. As soon as I clicked on 'Return' and printed the free return shipping label, they had already ordered me a new one and I had it in 3 days!!! In case you would have to return it, mark your boxes that everything came in and take pictures of how it was packed. Took me over 2 hours to pack this thing back up. Most importantly....use this grill as much as you can in the first 30 days to make sure it is functioning correctly, otherwise you will have to deal with Pitboss ...paying your own return shipping and replacing parts on your own. Also don't forget to register your grill right away on the Pitboss website, in case you have problems after the 30 day Amazon window. Checkout the Pitboss website for their recipes....some of them are quite good...the bacon wrapped asparagus tastes just like Carrabas. Just sprinkle some balsamic vinegar on it after grilling. The Pitboss spices/rubs, while expensive are very good. The sweet heat is good on anything and the mandarin habanero is amazing on wings. I sprinkle and toss after cooking. Good luck !!
Pit Boss sent us their largest, top of the line 820 Deluxe model to test. Deluxe models have an attractive copper colored lid, neat stainless steel removable serving tray that also functions like a side shelf and built-in bottle opener. Standard models use a typical flame diffuser over the firepot and a flat drip pan right beneath the grates that is angled to divert drippings into a grease bucket hanging from the right side.
After an hour on tech support, taking the thing apart, they acknowledged the auger motor was bad and they would send me one. This would be FANTASTIC if I had owned the grill for a year or so and the company was standing by their product... but to insist on sending me a part to a BRAND NEW GRILL and having me replace it...Unacceptable. When I asked for a new replacement hopper system (I get it ... things break... and I'm willing to meet them halfway) they said no... just the motor. I would have kept it had they allowed me to swap out the entire hopper system but I shouldn't have to do surgery on a brand new piece of equipment. Please don't buy this poorly made (China) piece of trash.
I’m kinda torn between the 700 and the 820. Is the 820 THAT much bigger than the 700 I’ve only see the 700 all put together in a store. I really don’t need bigger but in Canada the price point is almost zero between the 2 of them. The 820 is only $100 more In Canada but comes with a cover while the 700 does not so I’m leaving towards the 820 it’d be the same price after I buy a cover for the 700. We don’t BBQ in any large quantities often it’s just a coupla hunks of chicken for dinner.
Generally speaking cheap grills are not made with quality materials. While the outside may look good, often times you will find the guts of the grill are made with lower grade metals. This of course affects functionality and longevity. If the inside of the grill isn’t made using quality materials you will literally burn through it over a certain period time.
This was a gift from my wife for my 65th B-day. I have been smoking foods most of my adult life and still have one wood, one propane and one charcoal smoker but this is my first pellet. It's so easy it's boring. I just load it, shut the lid and and walk away. No puffing, no loading of wood or water, no worry's with temperature, easy to clean and makes me look like the pit boss. From the searing of steaks, to smoked red and white meats, to baking entire meals, this is the best. My friends have the others, but I have the best.
When it comes to construction, few companies can beat Traeger. Its grills come with construction features like cast-iron grates with a clear and nontoxic coating that prevents food from sticking to the grill and fireboxes made from a similar material. Though Pit Boss grills feature similar elements, many look flimsy, and most will not keep up with your grilling and smoking demands.

This Camp Chef PG24 Review expects to give purchasers all the data they have to settle on an educated purchasing choice.

So if I am going to take a pass on the Pit Boss then why not get a Traeger?  A lot of folks are introduced to this brand through the infomercials for the Traeger Renegade Elite.  And while the Elite and other models like the Tailgater are fine cookers I am not going to recommend a Traeger for the exact same reason that you are thinking about a Pit Boss.

The ceramic body has an integrated damper constructed from high quality cast iron. The grill itself is on wheels, meaning that it’s easily transportable should you want to move it around your backyard. It even comes in 2 sizes; a 22-inch model (which is the one we’ve based this review on), and a slightly larger model at 24 inches. The grill allows for moisture-lock in, the heavily insulated walls and the heat from the charcoal uniquely seeps into the food infusing it with flavor and moisture. The incredible insulation qualities of the grills also mean that you get the most out of each lump of charcoal so you can save on fuel expenses.

This piece of junk did not work when I received it fresh out of the box & now it's broke again!!! What a waste of money! First issue was a temp control module board, which the manufacturer actually sent me directly & I had to install it. Now after about 6 months of using it approximately 12-14 times, it won't even power up. I don't even want to attempt to fix it again!! I am going to spend the extra money & buy a Traeger!!

5 stars for this pellet grill primarily because of the size and $497 price tag. Competitors are double this price+ for similar sized and featured pellet bbq's. Construction is solid and heavy duty(nearly 200lbs) and I havent had any problems with the BBQ maintaining a +/-15 degree temp range once I had the p-rate dialed to the type of pellets I am using(treager hickory). This badboy produces plenty of smoke down in the 180-250 temp range and burns nice and clean in the 350-500 range. I have been using a smaller Traeger unit and purchased this for the increased grill space for larger family get togethers. Seems to work just as well as my Traeger and maybe even a little better at higher temp ranges closer to 500 degrees(my traeger wont generally get any hotter than 400). Only drawback is the pellet consumption...it goes through more pellets per hour than my smaller grill but that is due to the size of the BBQ and no fault of the grill design.
An even smoke means consistent temperature and control over the amount of smoke actually entering the chamber. This smoker accomplishes that through the integration of a single control knob, which allows you to control the temperature of both valves individually, meaning you can tailor exactly what you want quickly, and easily. Lighting the valves themselves, is also wonderfully simple – an ignition button situated just next to the control knob allows you to switch on the valves with just a push.
I'm really loving this grill! So far I've cooked a tri tip. Brisket. Ribs and a pork butt. All on one 20lb bag of pellets. It's almost a set it and forget it kind if thing. I just pop out and look and the temp once and a while with the built in probe I don't have to open the lid and let out the smoke and heat. It steps up your bbq game to a different level for sure. This is very well made.
Warranty is available upon request from Pit Boss so you can rest assured of your grill’s longevity. Another benefit to this grill is the fact its sole fuel source lies in woodchips. There’s no need for anything else to fuel this amazingly comprehensive machine. If you’re not entirely familiar with woodchips, this machine has got you covered. Its automated system will control exactly the required amount of chips for an individual grill session, meaning you can spend more time getting on with your day.

To start, let’s talk equipment. You don’t need to spend a lot, but you do need something reliable. I love my Pit Boss Memphis Wood Pellet Grill. It’s an all-in-one gas grill, charcoal grill, and electric smoker. And it’s available exclusively at Walmart! Since it has three cooking methods in one, I made the dinner you see all outside using this grill.
Then Pit Boss grill is a really strong choice, to sum things up. If you have been smoking meats for years  and are looking for a unit that lands at the very peak of the high-end for home use, you’ll want to look at one of the premium units we’ve reviewed, but frankly for the vast majority of people, this one right here will be an absolute treat and more than enough.
