5 stars for this pellet grill primarily because of the size and $497 price tag. Competitors are double this price+ for similar sized and featured pellet bbq's. Construction is solid and heavy duty(nearly 200lbs) and I havent had any problems with the BBQ maintaining a +/-15 degree temp range once I had the p-rate dialed to the type of pellets I am using(treager hickory). This badboy produces plenty of smoke down in the 180-250 temp range and burns nice and clean in the 350-500 range. I have been using a smaller Traeger unit and purchased this for the increased grill space for larger family get togethers. Seems to work just as well as my Traeger and maybe even a little better at higher temp ranges closer to 500 degrees(my traeger wont generally get any hotter than 400). Only drawback is the pellet consumption...it goes through more pellets per hour than my smaller grill but that is due to the size of the BBQ and no fault of the grill design.

Well, there is! I bought this grill for a third what the Traeger costs, and guess what? It does a great job!! There are a couple of immediate advantages this grill has over my old grill. One, you can sear with it. Can't on the Traeger. Two, you can adjust the "P" setting for more or less smoke. I've got mine set to a little higher than medium. No adjustment on the Traeger.

Awesome!.. clean, keeps temps, smokes like a boss (: 1st cookout was a 12lb pork butt, 24 brats, 12 hamburgers and 8 chicken thighs. Smoked the butt for 4 hours and wrapped. Kept it in for 6 hours at 250. It was a party favorite. I've never had a grill I could leave unattended for any length of time besides my electric smoker, and the flavor from the pitboss most definitely proves to be Superior. Thanks for the awesome setup guys!

My first run was a warm day with little wind and the temperature held +/- 15*…about the same as an oven and much more steady than sticks, chips, or charcoal. It is remarkably efficient. I have smoked twice and grilled once and haven’t used but maybe 10lbs of pellets (I have been using the Competition Blend Pit Boss Pellets ($20 at WalMart for 40 lbs) . WAY, WAY cheaper than charcoal to run (and almost no ash!). There is all of this talk about PID controllers in pits, and I don’t know if this pit has one or not, but if not, that talk is overrated in my opinion, because I can’t imagine needing any tighter control. The pit also has “P” value setting that allows you to trade a wider temperature variance for more smoke and less pellet usage. I haven’t played with that yet, but it sounds intriguing (it comes factory set in the middle).
